Travel Guide:
Our travel guides welcome you at the airport (in
Porto). They also invite you for a free drink,
where they give you information about your holiday
and destination. During your further stay they
assist you if required with advice and action.
On fixed times they visit your accommodation and
you can call them at the office of our agent in
Montalegre.

Time:
Portugal has 1 hour time difference with the Netherlands.
It is there 1 hour earlier.
CURRENCY:
The Portuguese currency is the euro (€).
VOLTAGE:
210 - 220 volts, the stopper contacts
are the same as in the Netherlands. DRINKING WATER:
The water from the tap is drinking water. However
we advise you to buy bottled mineral water.
CLIMATE:
The Barroso has a mild climate, but we advise
to take warm cloths in the late season.
LANGUAGE:
Besides Portuguese you can often use Spanish,
French and English as well.
TELEPHONE :
Directly to England: you dial 00.44 and hereafter
the number of the region (without the first zero),
followed by the subscriber's number. From a post
office or a telephone cell the calls are cheapest.
Some telephone cells work with coins, other with
pre-pay cards (in Portuguese: credifone). You
can buy them at the post office and in some shops.
VISITING HOUR:
Shopping hours: 09.00 - 12.30 and 14.00 - 19.00.
Saturday afternoon, Sunday and holidays closed.
Banks: opened 09.00 - 14.45. Saturday, Sunday
and holidays closed. Post office: opened 09.00
- 12.30 and 14.00 - 17.00. Saturday, Sunday and
holidays closed.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Bus - there are regular bus connections between
the cities in the North, mostly until 19 hours.
Taxi - you can recognize the taxi's by the colour:
beige. Taxi fare in Portugal is less expensive
than in the Netherlands.
TIPS: Bills in hotels, restaurants, cafés
etc. are generally including service. If you are
satisfied with the service, you can give a small
tip, also for chambermaids, taxi drivers, etc...
ACCOMMODATIONS:
The accommodations are kept clean, as mentioned
at the associated accommodation page. Washing
the dishes is not included! Towels are generally
replaced twice a week, sheets once a week. We
advise to take your own dishcloths. In the kitchen,
the following items are usually lacking: coffee-filter,
whistling-kettle, peeling-knife, tin opener, corkscrew
and a dishwashing brush.
Leave all data behind for the family that stays
at home: - Name and phone number of your accommodation,
flight numbers (departure and return trips), as
well as the phone number for flight information
at Schiphol: 0900-0141 (€ 0,50 per minute). Your
insurance emergency number. Planned travel route
and numbers of the car, if you’re travelling by
car.

MEDICINES:
Do not forget your medicines! We advise you take
a enough for your whole stay. Another recommendation:
keep your medicines in your hand luggage and ask
your specialist or family doctor for a French
or English medicine passport.
